About KAHU 1-to-1 Training Sessions
Every dog is an individual, and every human-dog relationship is unique. Our 1-to-1 support is tailored specifically to you, your dog, your goals, and the challenges you're facing.
At KAHU, we use force-free, ethical, and science-based training methods. We do not use or advocate for aversive tools or techniques, including choke chains, prong collars, slip leads used as correction tools, electronic collars (e-collars), physical punishment, or intimidation-based methods.
Our focus is on helping dogs and their humans learn through trust, understanding, clear communication, and positive experiences.
Where are the sessions held?
Sessions are designed around your individual needs and may take place:
- In your home
- In your local area
- In public spaces such as parks, cafés, high streets, or other suitable environments
We will work together in the locations that are most relevant to you and your dog, ensuring training is safe, practical, meaningful, and transferable to everyday life.
What will we cover?
Throughout the course, we focus on practical skills that support everyday life, including:
- Foundations of force-free, ethical dog training
- Creating connected loose lead walking
- Building a reliable recall through trust and consistency
- Supporting your dog to settle at home, in public, and around other dogs
- Developing key life skills such as leave it, drop, stay, and impulse control
What support is included between sessions?
To help you continue your learning at home, you'll receive:
- Training notes and guidance after each session
- 1-to-1 WhatsApp message support to answer questions and provide feedback throughout
What is the aim of the sessions?
The overall aim of the sessions is to help you and your dog feel more connected, understood, and confident together, while developing practical skills that support a happy and enjoyable life as a team.
Please bring the following to each of your sessions:
- A comfortable harness and/or flat collar
- A standard lead (no retractable leads, please)
- A 10-15m long line
- Plenty of small, high-value treats
- Water for your dog if needed
- A small blanket or towel for settling exercises
- Any toys or rewards your dog particularly enjoys
Most importantly, come ready to learn, have fun, and enjoy spending quality time with your dog. We can't wait to meet you both.
What happens if you can't make a session?
We understand that life doesn't always go to plan, and there may be times when you or your dog aren't able to attend a session.
At KAHU, we believe learning happens best when both dogs and their guardians feel comfortable, supported, and ready to engage.
If you're having an off day, that's okay.
We simply ask that you let us know as soon as possible if you're unable to attend, so that we can offer the space to another dog and guardian who may be waiting for a place.
How long do you have to use your pre-booked sessions?
To help you and your dog get the most from your training and maintain momentum between sessions, we ask that all sessions are used within 3 months of booking.
Your four or six session dates will be agreed at the time of booking, and your session will be reserved for you on those dates. These will be your designated training sessions unless changes are arranged with us in advance.
We understand that life can sometimes get in the way, so if you're experiencing exceptional circumstances, please get in touch and we'll do our best to help.
